Is Teen Depression Real? |

Too often,
depression and
dysthymia are
overlooked or
written off as
"laziness" or
"teenage angst"
in teenagers.
Our teen years
are difficult,
with changing
roles and
responsibilities
as well as
chemical changes
in our bodies.
But if you are a
teen with major
depression or
dysthymia, life
can become
unbearable. The
isolation and
pain of
depression are
bad enough, but
when adults
dismiss teens'
depression
symptoms, there
seems to be no
way out.Serious Complications of Teen DepressionDepression is a serious illness and it can have serious outcomes if it goes untreated. Depression can lead to drug and alcohol abuse, careless sexual conduct, and suicide, among other things. The sooner depression is treated, the better the outcome.
